The Eze Ndigbo Mekong River Asia, HRH Amb.Uzochukwu Jerome Ezeneche Eze nwatagwuoshimiri has condemned the postponement of General election by Independent Electoral Commission (INEC) Chairman, Prof Mahmood Yakubu from February 16 to 23rd of February. According to the royal father, the move ridicule Nigeria before the international community and also endangers our 20 years of unbroken democracy.

In a statement, Ezeneche lamented that the adjustment in the date of the election threw many Nigerians into confusion and forced them to cancel all their engagements for that day. While describing logistics reason cited by Prof Yakubu for postponing the election as ridiculous, Ezeneche urges aggrieved Nigerians to go to court and claim damages for economic and psychological pain suffered as a result of the poll shift.

On the implication of the poll shift, Ezeneche who is Eze Ndigbo in six nations of the Mekong River which includes Thailand, said postponement of the election could result in apathy among voters. “As you may know, not all who were ready for the botch poll would be available for next week election.”

While expressing fear that a week may not be enough to handle the logistic problem, Ezeneche suggested that three-month could likely be enough for the exercise. While calling on Nigerians to turn out en mass to vote on the 23rd, the Eze Nwatagwuoshimiri said, “rather than boycott election, Nigerians should vote right by electing a leader that would promote good governance in the country.

Furthermore, the royal father urges INEC to change the system of going back to where one registered PVC in order to vote. Let every Nigerian be able to vote from any part of the world. Most of us that fly into Nigeria to vote are now in dilemma”, he said.

On why he support Atiku Abubakar/ Peter Obi to win the presidential election, the royal father said if elected, Atiku has the experience as employer of labour to turn the economy around. He said Obi being a tested and trusted former governor of Anambra state who moved Anambra state to become the most economic viable state in the country, would also use his experience to transform Nigeria’s economy.
